Baddeck on the Water
Baddeck, one of the major tourism destinations on Cape Breton Island, has much to offer including those adventurers on the water such as boating, kayaking, whale watching and sailing on the Bras d’Or Lakes for starters.
Baddeck has been described as the beginning – and the end – of Cape Breton Island’s world-famous Cabot Trail. Nestled along the shore of the Bras d’Or Lake in Cape Breton, the town is a favourite stop for sailors and those looking for tranquil beauty in the heart of the island.
Head to downtown Baddeck and you will find lots to do along the water from the many cafes and restaurants to just relaxing along the water!
Alexander Graham Bell Museum
Be inspired by the fascinating life and work of Alexander Graham Bell – inventor, scientist, teacher, and devoted family man.
Marvel at full-scale replicas of the Silver Dart airplane and HD-4 watercraft, take the White Glove Tour for a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the genius of Bell, or Come Fly a Kite overlooking the beautiful water views of Baddeck Bay.
Highland Village
The Highland Village is a living history museum that vividly depicts how the Scots lived from the 1600s to the present day. You will have a change to explore authentic period buildings and learn about the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Scottish settlers through interactive exhibits and demonstrations.
Take part in a traditional céilidh, hear Gaelic singing, learn to speak Gaelic phrases, check out the person costumed animators that demonstrate traditional skills such as weaving, quilting and rug hooking.
Cabot Trail
The World Famous Cabot Trail is a mere 298 kilometre long journey by car with many winding hills and roadways, paths, stairs and stunning beauty that takes you from unreal ocean vistas to quaint fishing villages, passing through the Cape Breton Highlands National Park at its northernmost point.
Plan ahead in advance and leave a couple days to take in the whole Cabot Trail. Stop at the many seafood restaurants, visit dozens of beaches and look-offs to take pictures, and listen to the sound of seagulls as well as the roar of the ocean!
